Morning
After a delicious buffet breakfast at the hotel, head round the bay to explore Souq Waqif. The colourful shops at this labyrinthine traditional bazaar sell everything from spices and jewellery to birds of prey. Enjoy people-watching at a corner café and don’t forget to try a cup of sweet mint tea.
Afternoon
For lunch, head to the Museum of Islamic Art, where the Alain Ducasse IDAM restaurant overlooks the city skyline and Doha Bay. Afterwards, exploring the museum's exquisite collection of textiles, ceramics, wood carvings and blue-glazed tiles is a spectacular way to escape the heat of the day.
Evening
Join the local population for an early evening stroll along Doha's palm-fringed waterfront promenade, known as the Corniche. Enjoy the breeze and city views on a boat trip in a traditional dhow before returning to the hotel to dine, relax and watch the sunset from the open-air rooftop pool.
Local Culture
Doha is blessed with many museums and sites of interest. To get beneath the surface of our fascinating city, visit the Msheireb Museums, where exhibits on Qatar’s social and cultural development are housed in four elegant, traditional heritage houses.
Top of the list has to be the Museum of Islamic Art. Designed by Pritzker Prize-winning architect IM Pei and built on a man-made island, the contemporary five-storey building is a work of art in itself. Inside, you’ll discover fabulous carpets, metalwork and exquisite ceramics dating back centuries.
Katara Cultural Village is a sleek arts complex between West Bay and the Pearl, home to theatres, galleries and performance venues. Overlooking the Arabian Sea, its white stone amphitheatre integrates classical Greek design with traditional Islamic motifs, and can seat 5000 for open-air shows.
Museums and Galleries
The Sheikh Faisal Museum, 28km west of Doha, displays more than 15,000 artifacts from the sheikh's private collection. Eclectic displays set within impressive galleries in a huge fort include carpets, historic weapons and traditional household items, as well as hundreds of vintage vehicles.

In preparation for hosting FIFA’s football World Cup in 2022, Qatar is building nine eco-friendly stadiums seating up to 80,000 people. The Doha Metro, a rapid transit system covering 300km, is due to be operational by 2019, providing city residents with a whole new local transport system.
The Pearl - known as the Arabian Riviera - is a man-made island built on an ancient pearl diving site off West Bay. Featuring luxury homes, a marina and upmarket shopping malls alongside cafes, fine dining restaurants and a waterfront promenade.
Qatar is statistically one of the safest countries in the world, with a very low crime rate. Just remember to pack sunscreen, carry plenty of water when exploring, and wear light, loose-fitting clothes to beat the daytime heat.
